Karumbé is an
ancient Guaraní word meaning "turtle". Today Karumbé is a group of
professionals, fishermen, and students organized as a non-profit NGO. Founded
on February 3, 1999.
Our mission is
to protect marine biodiversity and its habitats, and to promote the sustainable
development of fishing communities, seeking alternatives to reduce the impact
of human activities on endangered species. Karumbé uses research, environmental
education, and conservation tasks as the primary tools, in collaboration with
other national and foreign organizations and institutions.
